| About Capricorn | |
As a successful proprietary trader for Smith Barney in Geneva, Mikkel Thorup decided to further his ambitions by establishing a CTA firm in 1998. A year later he founded Capricorn with the mission to provide discretionary trading strategies to a selected number of high net worth clients. After two years of operations, assets under management were gaining traction slowly despite the programs generating impressive annualised returns. Deciding to focus on marketing pure alpha currency strategies to institutional clients, Capricorn Asset Management (Schweiz) AG was formed under Swiss regulation in 2001 with Martin Zoller as Director and AML Officer of the new entity. Mike Rasmussen was hired as a consultant in the same year before joining as COO and Partner in 2004, when the team was expanded again with a second trader. By 2005 assets under management passed the $25 million threshold and Capricorn was approved for the DBSelect managed account platform, and an endorsed counterparty of Deutsche Bank and UBS.
Within a few years assets under management doubled and in 2008 a second strategy was launched as an SPC fund vehicle. Capricorn Currency Management (Cayman) LTD was formed under the regulation of CIMA, to act as the investment manager of the fund strategy. As of today, the Capricorn team manages over $100 million in pure alpha strategies, trading discretionary views for clients that include; banks, institutions and high net worth individuals. In addition, Capricorn has advisory mandates of $190 million.
